Priorities of the Personal Support Worker
A BIG part of a Personal Support Worker's role is to provide and show compassion. Compassion means caring about another person's misfortune and suffering.
Providing people with Compassionate care means treating people with respect, kindness and understanding. As a PSW, you deal with a large and diverse client group. But no matter the disability or illness, each person have the following needs.
MAINTAIN THEIR DIGNITY

People need these to maintain their dignity.
TO REMAIN INDEPENDENT

EXPRESS THEIR CHOICES IN LIFE
People need to make their own decisions and tell Personal Support Workers how they want their care done.
RESPECT THEIR PRIVACY
Close the door when dressing etc.
Cover them when they are bare, maintain their dignity
BE SAFE FROM HARM
People need to feel safe and secure with the care provided
